A simple trick to make your bedroom look bigger in size.

Dear friends, today I am going to share with youlittle secret that I have experienced myself recently.
It's a simple trick which is almost every time overlooked. This simple trick has proven to be a very comforting experience for me.

Let's look at it from scratch. In any interior space in our home, furniture plays a major role as far as comfort qualities areconcerned. Furniture is the first thing that we see. When wesay that a room is occupied it is primarily occupied by furniture.

A room without any furniture pieces in it is absolutely useless. The overall volume of the furniture elements directly affectsour comfort factors in a room.

If we consider the case of bedrooms here, a double bed is the commodity that occupies maximum space. Just imagine if we removethe double bed from your room what will happen? the room willstart looking bigger because of the perceived volume.

Now here is a little trick you can try? Instead of using a fullsized double how about using a platform bed? A platform bed is nothing but a bed with less height than a full sized bed.

So what's so special about it? Because of the reduction in heightthe overall volume of the bed as compared to other furniture piecesis less. Because of the less volume of the bed the bedroom isperceived bigger in size.
In addition to using a platform bed if bright color combinations are used such as white and yellow, a small bedroom is perceivedas a slightly bigger room.

A normal double sized bed normally measure something around1800mm(L)X1800(W)x450mm(H). But a platform bed has a slightlyless dimensions in plan and the height is about 15" that's about380mm above the floor level.

This creates a less volumetric furniture piece which is visuallymore light in weight than a full double sized bed. Platform bedsare available in wooden as well as steel structures. Manymanufacturers specifically manufacture mattresses and otheraccessories that would specifically help the easy and comfortableuse of the platform bed.
Depending upon the design/material/finishing qualities a good price range is also available. Being light in weight it can be easily movedand transported to any location within a room.

If you are looking for a easy and affordable way to furnish your bedroom, then a platform bed can be a better choice that wouldfit into your budget and create a better aesthetically visualquality.I hope you have enjoyed this text...

Wooden Vs. Steel Furniture. Which one should I choose?

Furniture is an inseparable element in home decorating. It is furniture that makes the rooms in a home habitable/usable.Depending upon the use of the room, the quanity of furniture changes.

In early ages a lot of emphasis was given on the size ofthe furniture. for example the king was give a "throne" whichclearly stated his status within the society. From thenfurniture has become a fashion trend with furniture design as a complete profession in itself.

Primarily furniture comes in two main body frames, wooden andsteel.

The wooden furniture then gets divided into many types of woodsdepending upon the type of furniture required. for exampleteak wood, cedar wood, cane furniture etc...

The steel furniture also has varieties such as stainless steel, wrought iron furniture, etc...
Very basic difference between the two types of furniture is the method of manufacturing them. Lets take a look at some of the basic pros and cons for these two types of furniture body materials.

1) Wooden Furniture

Wooden furniture is the most widely used and opted for typeof material for furniture. The main reason is ease of use. Sincewood is a soft material to work with (as compared to steel),manufacturing furniture with wood requires less amount ofinitial investment in terms of money.

Carpentry skills required to carry of furniture jobs can also beeasily learned, hence it is a popular type of furniture type. From users point of view, wooden furniture looks very aestheticand because of its soft nature decoration can be easily made onwooden surfaces.

2) Steel Furniture

Steel furniture has gained much popularity after the advancesin technology in the metallurgy field. Manufacturing of steelfurniture does require special tools and skills. The greatestadvantage of steel furniture is its strength and lifespan.

Steel furniture can be put under the category of "contemporaryfurniture". Because of the flexible manufacturing process, furniture with any size and shape can be easily designed andmanufactured today. Wooden furniture does have certain limitationswhen it comes to shapes.

But our main question remains unanswered! which one should yougo for, wooden or the steel furniture?
Of course there is not a straight forward answer for this question. You can go for a wooden theme or a complete steel theme design ora combination of both. But there is a different point of view forlooking at it and that's visual quality..

Both wooden and steel furniture has got their own visual impactson our mind. This visual impact will differ depending upon finalfinish of the furniture piece. So it's not just use of the furniture piece, but aesthetic features also matter a lot.

If you go for "all steel" furniture theme your interior spacemight look like a modern and contemporary styles, which might not be acceptable at times. On the other hand the "all wooden"furniture theme might give your space a country type of look.

Because furniture pieces are the first things which are visible when we enter any room, their selection greatly affects visualqualities of spaces.

There is one more point to consider here. If you are the kind ofperson who likes to shift the furniture layout more often, gofor steel furniture. Of course this is not the ultimate ruleof the world. I am saying this simply because it is easy to transfer the steel furniture from place to place with thehelp of wheels.

Thus whatever type of furniture you choose you must consider that it's not just usability but visual factors are equallyresponsible for the beauty of interior spaces.

I hope you have enjoyed this text...

Things to consider while designing a guest bedroom.

A bedroom is a place where we relax. Depending upon the age group normally bedrooms are categorized as master bedroom, teen bedroom, child/kid bedroom.

But a home building may also have a provision for a guest bedroomin it. If the architect of the building has taken enough carewhile designing the building, a guest bedroom is located on the ground floor.

I have seen home designs where a guest bedroom is deliberatelylocated on ground floor and used as a income source bygiving the room o rent. This is common practice in crowded cities.

Because of its location on ground floor it is easy togive a separate access to the space without disturbing the privacyof the entire house.

Ideally a guest bedroom should have a good natural lighting andventilation. A good view of the surroundings from the window isalso appreciated. It is like treating the guest bedroom justlike the master one. Good quality furniture with easy access to attached toilet blockis also strongly recommended. The most important aspect accordingto me is cleanliness. Since a guest has a very limited time spanto spend in his bedroom, it is extremely important to take care ofhygiene. A room which is easy to clean and maintain is preferred.

A bedroom, which is too small in area, will have restrictions as faras experimentations in design are considered. By experimentationI mean trying different furniture layouts or decorating ideas willbe somewhat restricted.
A good example to study, is to start with bedrooms in large hotel. All rooms in a hotel come under the category of "guest bedrooms"The only difference is, we "pay" to stay there, which is not thecase with a bedroom in our home. The architect of the hoteltakes good care of providing natural sunlight and ventilation anda good view of the surroundings. Thought now a days most hotelrooms have air conditioners to artificially control the internalenvironment, a provision for natural control is a must.

Use of dark colors can be avoided. You can always try to be a little creative while designing the guest bedroom. The reason here is, the guest is there at your place probably to have a change in his dailyroutine life and if a room in YOUR home gives him such a nicefeeling of "change" then he might visit again the next month.

As mentioned before in most cases the guest bedroom is locatedon the ground floor. This can be used creatively to provide anaccess to the landscaped backyard or an open patio with informalseating. The space must have a provision for sliding orfolding door shutters so that can be easily closed if required.

So the entire success of the guest bedroom design project liesin finding out how the guest feels when he/she lives there. Was shecomfortable there. Did she find things easily. Even small things likelight and fan switches, water taps in bathrooms, wardrobe shutters, door and window hinges etc.. must be kept in well maintained andproper working condition for the guest. Small thing add up and can become a reason for uncomfortable environment for the guest. That'sthe meaning of the statement "easy to maintain" which I mentioned above in this article.
I hope this article was informative to everyone.

Study of "Interior Design" as a reflection of the mind.

Dear friends, we as humans are a composite of mind, body and spirit. All these three in proper coordination, create the world around us. The things, which we want in life, are first created in our mind, then our mind sends signals to our brain and the brain sends signals to various parts of our body to
take action and thus "reality" gets created.

This means that whatever we imagine in our minds gets converted in reality. The program of our mind decides what we imagine. I mean if I want to decorate my bedroom, everything from the
type of furniture I choose to the budget decision will depend upon my "broader attitude" towards life.

If I am a "budget conscious" person, then this will affect right from the initial stages of the design. I will look at the design from a conservative point of view. Thus everything, which gets created in reality will have an influence of my personality.

Here I am not trying to say that only high budget designs are good. I have seen works of many interior designers, who have spent their entire lives on studying low cost design projects and also have won awards for their magnificent work.

That's why any interior design project can not be fulfilled without active participation of the client or the user. Creativity doesn't have any boundaries of budget. Any piece of art which fulfils the functional need and also the aesthetical need can be easily accepted as an architectural element. Budget is not a constraint at all. On the other hand the budget constraint sometimes is useful to generate some good ideas for a particular
problem.

An interior designer is not an artist, because an artist basically performs his acts to satisfy his own desire. This could be any performing art or other forms of arts. His piece of work may not have any functional use from user's point of view.

An interior designer is not even a technician or engineer. Because when an engineer builds a design he need not worry of making it "beautiful". His primary aim is to make it functional. He puts his entire energy in making the design functional.

That's why an interior designer is one who satisfies both the functional as well as aesthetical part of the design. Sometimes it is easy to accomplish the functional part of an interior design, but since the definition of beauty is different for everyone, it is extremely difficult to satisfy each and every user's aesthetic hunger.

This is particularly true about interiors in public spaces. For example a bank building has a definite use and function for all the users. We can safely create a list of functions a person would perform when he visits a bank. But this does not mean the bank reflects his personality, like the first paragraph of this article mentions.

That's why interiors in public spaces always are designed by taking into consideration something called as "mass personality". This is a general attitude of the kind of mindset everyone would have or is likely to have when he/she visits that space. If you visit large corporate software office premise, you will see this picture.

Office interiors always have a certain kind of order in them. The use of colors, design styles have a kind of commitment in them, which is expected from you when you work there.

On the other hand a bar or a restaurant has some sort of mood generating atmosphere, which sets you loose. Because this is what is expected in a public space like a restaurant.

Thus any interior space is always associated with people. A space which serves its functions best and makes the users comfortable is bound to succeed as a favorite place.

I hope this article was informative to everyone.

How to use wall finishes in a bedroom design project?

Dear friends, any interior space is composed of some primaryarchitectural elements such as walls, floor and ceiling.Depending upon the type of structural framework, the construction method would change.

We always see experience and perceive any interior spacein elevation. This means that walls are the first things ofany structure that create an impact on our mind. The qualityand volume formed because of the walls define an architectural structure.

When we enter a building, what we primarily and dominantly perceive are walls. Let's see how walls can be used as an excellent element in a bedroom design project.

1) Exposed Brick walls.

In order to use these kind of walls it is necessary to preplan the interior design schedule. Normally if a brick wall is tobe kept exposed (without plaster), it is built with high qualitybricks which are machine cut for high quality and accuracy.

Since bricks have their own color and texture, this option canbe used to create a color contrast by keeping only one wallexposed and other with a contrasting color. This can add someinterest in the bedroom.

2) Exposed plaster walls.

An exposed plaster wall is a wall which has not been painted.

These kind of walls are very rarely used in interiors. Sincethe plaster is a composite material using appropriate qualitiesof cement, sand and aggregate, the final material has a dullcolor. A dull color on a space like bedroom would expressa kind of depression, hence is not recommended.

But portions of a wall with preplanned design and sketching canbe used in association with exposed brick wall. Designpattern with partly colored and partly exposed plaster can be a good idea.

Or a completely exposed plaster wall with a design patter in grooves can be used effectively.

3) Wall with tile cladding.

Tile cladding is what we see in kitchen above the cooking platform. Tile cladding is also used in bathrooms and toilets. These are normally ceramic tiles.

In a bedroom interesting patterns can be created to fake theexposed brick wall mentioned above. Many excellent patterscan be used just like a jigsaw puzzle.

4) Paintings.

The word painting has two meanings here.

a) A wall with plane colors applied to it. This is done above the plastered surface of the wall. Two or three coats of the desiredshade of the color and base material are applied.

b)Secondly, instead of using plane colors, the entire wall canbe used as a "canvas" to paint a story or mural. This is a verygood method to paint children bedrooms. Walls can be used as astoryboard to create interest.

5) Wallpapers.

Applying a wallpaper is an excellent way to quickly change the look and feel of the bedroom. Depending upon the "theme" of the roommany wallpaper patterns are available.

Wallpapers are very good in large bedrooms. In large bedroom"emptiness" is a big problem. If there are not enough decorating elements available, a room might look empty. Here wallpapers canserve as fillers and quickly add some interest in the room.

6)Textured plaster walls.

These kind of walls need special techniques to create a texturedpattern on walls. Once a texture is applied any shade ofpaint can be used.

One of the great thing about these walls is, when sunlight falls on them, a very interesting play of light and shadows gets created.Because of the undulations in the surface of the plaster, smallshadows form on the surface of the wall, giving it a visualquality.

A wall in the bedroom which receives direct sunlight should bechosen for this purpose.

This article shows you how various options to the existing wallfinishes are possible, that can enhance the quality of thebedroom interior space.

I hope this article was informative to everyone.

How to use accessories in a bedroom decorating project?

Any interior space is primarily composed of walls, floor andceiling. These elements give a habitable character to theinterior space.

Apart from providing protection from natural elements such asrain, snow, wind and other natural calamities, an interiorspace is also responsible for creating moods, depending upon thetheme of the decoration.

Depending upon the functional purpose of the interior space, thequality and quantity of the furniture and other elements maychange. For example a "meditation center" might not requireany furniture at all, but a gymnasium on the other hand requiresspecially designed equipment.

For the sake of this article we are only going to concentrate onbedrooms. A bedroom is a space, which is close to our heart. Thisis the space where we take rest and regain the vital energyforce for the next day's work. A typical bedroom consists ofa double/single bed depending upon the size and occupancy of theroom, wardrobe, study table, chairs for informal gathering, dressing table, side tables adjacent to the bed for keepingitems such as telephone, watch, etc..

Since a bulk of volume gets occupied with the furniture pieces, the beauty of a bedroom greatly depends upon the quality of thefurniture. But that's not all. Any interior space can be greatly enhanced using "accessories" and some great amount of detailingcan be added to an existing bedroom with furniture.

1)Use of decorative curtains.

These are called as "valances" are a very good means to decorate the windows and other openings. These decorative curtains have 2 purposes.a) They define a window opening b) They diffuse the incoming sunlightand help the dispersion of light evenly. Valances can be easily be prepared at home with some basic knowledge of stitching.

2)Wall Hangings

Wall hangings are used as an alternative for wall paintings. These have a great advantage that they can be prepared from almostany material. Some possible options for material use could bematt finished paper, handmade paper, silk cloth, bamboo sticks, jeans cloth!, wool, plastic sheets, crape papers, etc...Small square pieces of these materials along with bits of mirrors pieces can be creatively used to prepare a wall hanging.

3)Wall Paintings.

The choice of the painting in this case highly depends upon thelikes/dislikes of the user. Also the nature of the surface on whichthe painting is going to be, is also important.

4)Photographs

Most people like to use framed photographs of the family members, ancestors, or some live stills from outside world. This method has gota great advantage. The user has got perfect control over whichkind of photos to choose. Photographs of real people can greatly adda human touch to an interior space.

5)Statues

These greatly add to the quality of the space. In case of bedroomsthe statues which can add some interest to the overall theme can be used. Some gift articles come in the form of statues or a watch embedded in it can serve two purposes at a time. They add some grace to the design and at the same time, become a useful functional piece.

6)Shade Loving Plants.

Depending upon the size of the bedroom, lots of varieties of shadeloving plants are available today. If the plant is a flowering one, then this can be very creatively used. A flowering plant can greatly add to the mood of an space because of its changing nature offoliage and color.

7)Decorative Lamp Shades.

Decorative lamp shades have a very unique quality attached tothem. Because they are functional mostly at night times, the shapeof the lamp shade itself can be chosen in such a way, that will addsome interest in the bedroom. During its functional times a lampshadewhich is made of semitransparent cloth covers can add somewonderful ambience in the interior space.

8)Free standing wooden partitions.

These are used in large bedroom to define certain areas of thesame space into different parts. for example a wooden partitioncan be used to segregate a study space inside a bedroom ora decorative wooden partition can be used to hide the direct entry to the toilet, by creating a private area.

These are some of the ideas I have come up with randomly. Thesecan be a good starting point. You can always come up with more goodand creative ideas of your own. A very creative use of these accessories can definitely sheer up an interior space.

I hope this article was informative to everyone.

The Oriental Vs. Contemporary bedroom design theory.

Dear friends,

If you have read any interior design books/articles, visiteda few websites on the internet, you will find the word theme used quite often.

What exactly is a theme-based design?

A theme according to me is a collection of various parameters ofdesign of an interior space. So a theme may include a certain setcolors, materials, repetition of a certain element, such asa decorative item, etc...
Primarily there are two basic themes under which a design canbe categorized, 1)Oriental 2)Contemporary.

Oriental Bedroom Design Theme:

These kind of themes have a still drilled down niche designthemes, such as country, rustic, vintage, elegant, etc...One of the major thing about these kind of themes is that muchemphasis is given on the natural beauty of any material. These designs are close to nature or are shown to be close tonature.

These kind of design styles are very rarely found in the urbancity interiors. Mostly the countryside homes adopt these kind ifthemes, to replicate the flora and fauna of the outside environment.

The designer tries to include the patters seen in nature, such asleaves, flowers, plants. All these natural patterns are seen onwallpaper patterns, decorative lamps, curtains, furnitureupholstery, wall paintings, etc...

Homes which are build on country side such as farm houses, the scarcityof space is not an issue, but this creates another problem as far as designing interiors is concerned.

A bedroom, no matter of what size it is, requires some basicfurniture elements as functional needs, such as a double bed, dressing table, wardrobes, study tables, a book shelf etc..

It is sometimes possible that because of the large spaces, thebedroom looks empty after the furniture is arranged. At suchtimes "decoration" plays a major role. During ancient yearsthe palaces and castles had such large built spaces, whereextensive use of decoration was used in the form of paintings, heavy decorative flooring patterns, carvings, moldings as a decorative architectural elements.

So in this oriental design trend, decoration of the space usingvarious accessories plays a major role.

Contemporary design Theme:

These kind of design themes are very new as compared to thepreviously mentioned oriental design theme. But how did the designers came along using these kind of designs?

During the starting years of the 20th century, the "IndustrialRevolution" in Europe changed the face of our planet. Itwas easy to design and manufacture goods on a mass scalewith amazing speed and efficiency.

This created a flood of industries in and around the cities. These cities attracted large amount of people to migrate fromrural areas to city centers in search of a living.

Because of this migratory effect there was a sudden need ofhousing requirement for the workers. This is where the concept of an "apartment" was introduced. Because of the pressure of demand,a school of thoughts emerged within the architects, whobelieved that "simplicity" is the need of today's era.

They thought that, the design of the building has to be simpleand easy to build, then only we can compete with the growingdemand of housing needs in cities. That's why simple designs with mostly plane and square faces with square or rectangular openingswere used. These forms and masses were easy to build and stillbeautiful. If everything from "safety pins" to "space ships" could be built on a mass scale, why not "buildings".

The school of thought believed that a plane rectangular formis in itself beautiful and they proved this using infinitepermutations and combinations of the basic square form. That'swhy decoration was given a second preference. Today we call thisschool of thought as "contemporary". In contemporary designevery element has an order.

That's why in today's modern interior design, simplicity is thekey to an efficient design. Unlike the previous oriental designtheme, the contemporary design theme states that any kind of architectural decoration is always dependent on the basic form of the building. The form itself is so beautiful, that the needto further decorate it is not required. Today's modern interiorsspaces are simple to understand, simple to construct, andproject a kind of simplicity.

By reading the above paragraphs some of you might say that, decoration is no more needed. But this is not true. I am not tryingto force some ideas here. But most people confuse the wholeconcept of "Interior Design" and "Interior Decoration". Bothare quite different and both have a unique value in today's complex society.

Decoration was something the primitive man learned, looking atthe nature around him. He saw plants, flowers, birds, animalsand tried to copy these elements. We still use "embroidery" onour dresses. But the modern design theory says that any sortof decoration can only "enhance" the existing form, but can not be an element of design.

What does this mean?

In the above said example the "embroidery" pattern can certainlyadd to the beauty of the cloth, but the modern theory denies toaccept the cloth to be of a cheap quality. It states that every form, texture, material, shape is in itself beautiful and must beaccepted as it is. Because of this the need to further decorate itdoes not arise.

Thus decoration whether used in architecture or elsewhere is alwaysdependant on the form on which it is used, but design isan independent entity which does not need any justification from theexternal factors.

The two design themes mentioned above are still widely used today. The user must look upon them from a point of view of what best suitshis/her likes and dislikes. Only then can you give yourself andyour family the best quality of living.

I hope this article was informative to everyone.

The two pillars of a successful interior design project!

Dear Friends,

Whenever I think of any design, be it interior design or product design, a few things very naturally come up in my mind. These are in the form of questions.

The best part is, answers to these questions can give rise toa very successful design in itself. Let's see how.
If I am planning to design a piece of furniture, let's say a double bed, immediate I start relating to what I alreadyknow about double beds, some picture/image I have alreadyseen, something I have seen in some furniture shop, etc...Then I start thinking about what material I should thinkabout, the budget, dimensions, age group of people who aregoing to use it, etc... If you answer these questions one byone on a paper, you will get a blueprint of the design process, so that you can convert in into technical drawings, with all the joinery details and finally the product.

Amongst above mentioned questions some are directly related tofunction of the double bed as a piece of furniture.

What does this mean?

When I ask myself, what should be the dimensions of a doublebed? I have very little freedom to decide the dimensions ofthe bed, because there are certain norms to be followed in order to serve it's basic function and that's comfort.

But what if I say that I will keep the overall surface area of the bed same , but make it round in plan. Will it be ok..

Now here I am trying to achieve both function and aesthetics, without sacrificing the comfort of the person who will use it.So during any design process there will be times when thedesigner need to take some decisions where he has to keepaside his wildest ideas and pay attention to function first.

That's why the true success of an interior design project isa good balance between function and aesthetics.
Expressing this kind of balance through design is not an easytask, because function is universally accepted, but aesthetics, not always.

What does this mean?

Beauty is always relative. A washbasin has a common universalfunction of an appliance to be used for washing hands, but it'sbeauty is relative. What is beautiful for me, might not holdtrue for you.

So a design expression can have a unique style of the designer himself. It is possible that the designer is morecomfortable with certain kinds of materials/finishes/colorschemes, etc.. which can reflect in his designs.
In spite of these personal touches a good designs always caters the needs of the user first. A good designer hasa certain kind of convincing power in his/her style whichhe uses to expresses in the design without sacrificing the likes/dislikes of the user.

There are designers who are more comfortable in designing onlya certain kind space such as bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms, public spaces such as restaurants, clubs, gymnasiums.

Of course this is entirely of a personal choice, but there is this same message in their designs, shell out your egoand design for the best parameters with worst possibilitiestaken into considerations. This is what gives birth to a great design.

I hope this article was helpful.

The truth about color schemes in an interior design project.

Dear friends, It is a universally accepted truth that colorimpacts human mind and therefore must be used wisely in aninterior space.

There is a normal practice amongst interior designers, to use"color schemes" to enhance the beauty of an interior space.

A color scheme normally has more that one color. The typeof color used and the type of combinations used will decidewhat kind of interest the space will express when it's beenpainted with a color scheme.

Let's see what are the types of colors

1)Hot Color Schemes

Primarily red and Yellow color lies in this category. These colors have an excitatory effect on human mind and hence areused in spaces where human activity is rapid and excitatory.
Such spaces are Circus Tents, Pubs, Sports Complexes, etc.. Inall these spaces physical activity is the primary function andhence a proper use of hot color scheme can greatly add to thequality of space.

2)Cool Color Schemes

Primarily Blue and Green fall under these category. These colorstend to create a soothing effect. Because its cool nature these are used where physical activity is of less importance.
Such spaces are bedrooms, hospitals, etc... You will extensive green in hospitals because of its cool nature.

3)Neutral color schemes.

Primarily White, Black and shades of these two i.e. Gray fallunder this category. Black and white when use with the hot or cool color scheme can shift the effect of hotness or coolness ofboth predominant color schemes.

Apart from these three basic color schemes infinite combinationsof all these colors is possible which can give rise to qualitiessuch as contrast, brightness, shallowness, etc...
In spite of such enduring qualities of the color schemes in interiordesign, color has a certain weakness built in itself.

The kind of emotion the color will evoke in human mind is directlydependant on two major factors.

1)The quality of surface on which it is applied.
2)The quality of light which falls on the colored surface.

These two factors must never be ignored. If there is no light, there is no identification of the color itself. A red coloredsurface will look different in morning dim sunlight, afternoonharsh sunlight and evening sunlight. Also it will have somemore exciting effect if an artificial light is projected on the surface.

A rough surface painted with a soothing color such as white willhave different appearance that a plain surface painted with white. Also if sunlight falls of a rough surface, it will cast minuteshadows of the details caused because of the roughness, thus limiting the smooth effect, the white color can cause.

Some designers have actually used this as a benefit to arouseinterest in a space. Apart from these every material on this planethas his own color. The brick exposed walls already have their ownreddish/brown color with a rough surface. The mortar joints betweenthe bricks also have their own color and texture.

That's why color in interior design is not something, which mustbe applied or not applied, but it is only a visual element whichis already present in our environment. The space is more importantthan the color and the appropriate color scheme will greatlyenhance the visual quality of the space attained by its form.

What does this mean?

We are used to live in rectangular spaces. The rooms in ourhome are predominantly rectangular in volume. But imaginea bedroom which is circular and also has a domical roof on top.
Here the form of the space itself is so exciting, that color playsa secondary role. Here the form of the space itself creates excitement, which could otherwise be achieved using a hotcolor scheme in a rectangular volume.

That's why any color scheme in interior design is alwaysdependant on the form of the space, quality of the surface on which it is applied and the amount of light it accepts.

I hope this article was informative to everyone.

How to generate ideas for your bedroom design?

Dear friends,

So, you want to design your bedroom. Hmm... looks like youare serious about it.

Lets' get started quickly. whenever I hear someone sayhe/she wants to design/decorate a bedroom a lot of thingscome to my mind.

But, let me clear one thing design and decorating are twodifferent aspects. When I say design, I mean a whole lotbigger perspective. Design includes a lot more maturity interms of how you perceive a space from within.
Of course I will cover more about design in some other article.Decoration is more close to everyday actions that can betaken in order to change or alter a space. Decoration deals with accessories used in a space. Very small things, such ascurtain rods, their color, lampshades, small statues, tablecloths, light fittings, are all parts of the detailing.

It is not that design does not deal with these aspects, butdecoration is more do-able easily than the whole designprocess.

If you are not aware of the decoration techniques, or where to start, I will give you a list of some place whereyou can observe and get inspiration.

1)Of course, the World Wide Web: this Internet is a good place to start. But the information on the internet is not always compiled and sorted out, the way you want it to be, so you might have to look deep.

2)Local Book stores: Interior design magazines, books, brochures from furniture manufacturers is a good source of inspiration. These books and magazines do their best to find out Works of successful designers, which can be quite inspiring.

3)Exhibitions: Exhibitions held by manufacturers of interior design products, can be a good source as well.

4)Movies and TV shows: Yes, these have a very high project budgets, so spend thousands of dollars every year to decorate the sets. Just keep your eyes open and you will definitely find some good themes in these too.

5)Look for hobby groups around in your city, look for seminars of those who are successful artists. Bedroom decoration includes detailing and paying attention to small things. Visit art galleries, where you can find some good paintings, other related artwork, which can enhance the beauty of your space.

Finally I would like to say that it's your room and youare the only person who knows better about your likes and dislikes. So start out immediately because "When There IsWill, There Is A Way".

How to design a Child bedroom?

Dear friends,

Children at age of 1 1/2 start to walk, talk and expressthemselves. Their parents are the role models for them. They learn to perform action which their parent teachthem.

Based on these teachings children vey quickly learn a taste about everything in life. This includes, the food they eat, the kind of toys they play with, the kind offriends they will make etc..

For a growing child it is necessary to expolre new things, apart from what his/her mom/dad teaches. A bedroom is agreat place to do this. When planned properly, a child bedroom can greatly enhance his/her learning experience.

Children have a curious mind. Even a child which is yet tospeak, this curiosity can be easily traced by looking at the broken toys, torn books, etc..

That's why as a bedroom designer creating spaces within the structural walls, using intersting furniture elements, cangralty help to add some curious thinking. Furniture piecesspecifically designed to create an adventure can be proposed.

Instead of using plain colored walls, theme base paintings, such as AESOP stories, fairy tales, can be painted on walls. These picturesd can include animals, trees, vehicles, humanbeings of different age groups. This gives an extra learningedge, because there is lot to learn about the world as a whole.

Creative flooring patterns can also be a good starting point. At the same time use of ceiling space as a storyboard can be used to give a knowledge of the "sun and moon".

Furniture with level differences can act as a way whichtends to give physical exercise and at the same time createa space of their own.

As far as linen is concerned, it should be easy to maintain, because it is more likely to get dirty and messy frequently.Above all these factors what is most important is a good natural light and free flowing air can add to the healthyatomsphere.

From above discussipn it is quite clear that bedroom design is not just arranging a few furniture pieces and arranging them in the physical space. It is much related to how humansreact to diferent artificially created materials, which includestheir color, texture, finishes, etc..

If used creatively it can greatly improve the quality of humanlife. I hope this article was helpful for moms/dads and alsofor the designers.

The concept of dynamic space in bedroom design.

Dear friends, can you define the term "space". By space I don'tmean the universe or the astronomical point of view. A spaceis the area which is enclosed between walls, floor and ceilingand which can be used as a habitual room.

Any empty bedroom space has certain parameters attached to itthe moment it gets created.
What are these parameters?

First of all the length, width, and height , the physicaldimensions of the bedroom. These three have a unique relation to each other. Rooms with less length and width and too muchheight or too broad length and width and less height are notproportionate and tend to create discomfort.

But there are special cases where too much of height is anecessity. Some examples are church buildings, cinema halls. Here it is necessary to accommodate large group of peopleand project a kind if grandness through design.
That's why the space gets altered depending upon the use or"function" of the space. Hence in a bedroom the space takesa form of its own depending upon inners activities of the space.

Let's see how.

Any bedroom space has certain leakage points attached toit. By "leakage" I don't mean rain water or any other kindof stuff coming in. The bedroom space is likely to have exitpoint attached to it, like following,

1)Exit to backyard.
2)Exit to attached toile block.
3)Exit to attached walk-in closet
4)Exit to balcony or terrace.
5)Openings of windows.

Depending upon the location of these, an imaginary travel pathgets fixed starting from the entrance door of the bedroom. Thisimaginary travel path forces the user to arrange the furniture,in a way which will not create obstruction in the path.

After the furniture has been arranged, what remains is the spaceused for circulation inside the bedroom. If the bedroom has asmall area and too many exit points (as mentioned above), thenthe room is left with a fixed furniture layout.

At such times the success of the bedroom decorating projectlies in detailing. By detailing I mean small things such asupholstery materials, color schemes, furniture textures and finishes.

But with bedrooms which have large areas, the moment you change the furniture layout, the circulation space takesa new form and the entire room looks a new one. This iswhat I mean by "dynamic space" which takes a new shape.

It's like that example of the glass half filled with water. The moment you change the quantity of water space alters and the glass looks different.

Here we have come to an interesting conclusion of this article. From the above discussion one thing is very clear. The "personality" of a space can be easily altered by allowing the empty circulation space to take a new form.
In interior design everyone talks about furniture, colors, textures, paints, wallpapers, etc... but no one talks about "Empty Space"which is equally powerful. Finally it is the empty space whichremains and is a measure of the comfort level for the user.If there is very less empty space remaining in a room after the furniture is placed, it is considered uncomfortable.

I hope this article was informative to everyone.
